2010 Annual Meeting Tells A Story

The CrossRoads Heritage Center’s rescheduled Annual Meeting & Dinner on February 19, 6:30 p.m., at Lindale Mennonite Church, featured delicious food prepared by the Rhodes family and a collection of photos and stories of last year’s activities. The photos depicting some 20 key activities in 2009 developed the theme, “And the Story Continues.”

Joel Ballew, secretary of the board, set the tone for the visuals by highlighting the importance of story in transmitting history and heritage to future generations. A number of storytellers interspersed throughout the picture show gave personal witness to significant events of the year. For example, Ruth Stoltzfus Jost gave a personal reflection on the rebuilding of the Breneman-Turner Mill’s crumbling south wall. Board member Marvin Slabaugh told about purchasing 10 additional acres of land on the south side of the CrossRoads campus. Board member and accountant Greg Geisert gave an overview of finances. Board member Linda Bomberger highlighted the increased response of schools who gave their students field trips at the CrossRoads campus. Ellen Layman told about an Antique Auction being planned for April 16.

Director Steve Shenk reported that nearly 2,000 visitors toured the center last year, and board president, Robert Alley, moderator for the evening, thanked everyone who shared in supporting the center last year, whether by volunteer time, prayer or finances. Board member Paul Roth led the 160 attendees in singing songs that highlighted aspects of the Center’s work, such as “I Love to Tell the Story.”
